“I will send rain in due season.”  Deuteronomy 11:14

Friends,

We found a home!

Can you believe it?

After being on the road for three months, living out of boxes, having no home to call our own, waiting, searching, waiting, searching, and waiting some more, we are thrilled to have found a home!

We had started to think that nothing would be available in this area and we were just a day away from beginning to search in the L.A. area, and maybe the Death Valley area, which we didn’t necessarily want to do. Nobody likes to be homeless and wandering.

We both feel better in the central coast area, (better than anywhere else we have been in the past three months), yet after all this time looking here we had come up with nothing. We were starting to question whether there was a home anywhere that might fit my needs!  That is not a comforting thought.

ABOUT OUR NEW HOME (!):

Our new home will be in Morro Bay, CA. We can see the ocean from the front yard of the house. There is a hiking trail just two blocks from the front yard. The air is very fresh and clean and full of negative ions from the ocean, which are incredibly healing!

Our new home has several unique features that are incredibly fitting for our needs. It has an outdoor shower (as well as an indoor one), which is awesome for washing off any toxins that may have been picked up while we were away from home, so we don’t bring them into our home. It has a garden where we can plant herbs and vegetables. It has a (private) outdoor tub, which empties into a grey water system in order to conserve water (water is very precious in California). It has an area where I can cook and then wash our dishes outside. It has a couple sitting areas outside. (Note: There are LOTS of ways we can be outdoors in the fresh air at this home, and we plan to take advantage of every ounce of fresh air and sunshine that we can by cooking, bathing, working, playing, and resting outside!)

The owner of the home had completely torn the house down to the studs and joists about ten years ago, and rebuilt it from there. He even raised the roof, which is a blessing in Travis’ case!

He and his wife are scrupulous in their care for the home, and have kept a keen eye on the home, making sure it has not had water damage over the years. We met one of the neighbors and they are delightful people as well. Everyone in the neighborhood looks out for one another and are very friendly, we are told.

The home is a small bungalow, perfect for the two of us.  It has a small wall heater, so there is no forced air in the home. It does not have a furnace or an air conditioner, which are two breeding grounds for mold and toxins. It has zero carpet. It has a landline telephone and is set up for Ethernet internet usage, so EMFs can be kept low. It has one bedroom and an office, which is perfect for Travis’ needs!

As you can see, we are very thankful for this home!

As an aside, I found this rental listing by mistake, at 2AM in the morning, when I couldn’t sleep this past Sunday night. We found out later that the landlord had planned on removing the listing from the internet, but had forgotten, so we caught it at the last minute! Wow.

LANDLORDS:
Our new landlords are probably the most accommodating couple we have ever met. They are providing some basic things for us, like dishes and silverware, a toaster and some cooking utensils. They want to make this home work for us in any way they can, and even are willing to clean the home without chemicals before we move in.

Additionally, they currently live in the home and had planned to leave in mid March, but are leaving two weeks earlier to accommodate our needs. Friends, the list goes on. Just know that they have already shown us incredible kindness and understanding. Our hearts are very grateful for them.

MAKING THE DECISION:

We went to visit the home twice, in order for me to see how I felt in the space. I walked around and breathed deep and listened to what my body was telling me. We sat and talked with the owners and asked a ton of questions. We hope that once we are in the space long-term it is just what my body needs!

THANKS-GIVING FOR YOU ALL:

Thanks for hanging in there with us! We know it wasn’t easy on our end, and we know it wasn’t easy on your end! You are our cheering team and we are so grateful for you! You have kept our hearts lifted up during this time of searching, and we can not thank you enough!  We had just 12 days left at the CIRS safe house before we had to leave, so we are thrilled to have found a place to go when we leave here.

Now the goal is to really get my body cleared of toxins! We would love your prayers for this, as this is the mission of our whole journey.

PRAYER SUMMARY:

1. Yahoo! We found a home! Thanks, God!

2. Pray a blessing over this home, asking God that it will be a space my body can radically heal!

SNAIL MAIL:

We will move to our new home on March 1. We have *LOVED* receiving snail mail from people! We will have a new address on March 1, and I’ll send it to you if you email or message me! Recycled stationary or cards with non-toxic soy ink works great for me, I’ve found. Target has packs of recycled cards for a few dollars in their stationary section. Plain notebook paper is super too.

DONATIONS:

If you would like to donate to our journey toward health, we would be very grateful. My medical treatment requires many hundreds of dollars of medications, supplements, and treatments every month. We are incredibly grateful for your support, friends!

You may donate here at the link or the address below:

Mariah’s Medical Fundraiser
Or you can send a check, payable to Mariah West Health Donation Account*, to:

Thank you so much for standing with us in hope that healing is possible and we are in the process of finding the path that will lead us to it!

So thankful for a home,

Mariah and Travis

  1. Wow! I was brought to tears reading this part of the story. Praising God for his provision! I am so grateful for the graciousness of the landlords – that is so powerful. Thank you for continuing to tell your story. Blessings to you both!

  3. From Ps. 126: When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream…then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy…then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us and we rejoiced.

This psalm came to mind as your post unfolded…the joy and awe of finally being in a place that miraculously fits exactly what you need…The Lord has done great things for us (a place to live and answered prayers) You rejoice…we rejoice. The psalm continues…

Restore, our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses in the Negeb. May those who sow in tears, reap with shouts of joy. Those who go out weeping bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves!

My prayer for you…After the tears and bearing of many seeds, may the reaping of great benefits of the ocean air and the great outdoors begin, so you can come home (wherever that may be) with shouts of joy in restored health and wholeness. Blessings, Mariah and Travis..thanks for the opportunity to bear witness with you and can’t wait to see what God is up to next. Go God…amaze us again…
