7 hotels vetted tonight: None pass inspection.

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”  Isaiah 42:16

Friends,

We are in Prescott, AZ tonight. We are on an unfamiliar path. We vetted seven hotels and Air BnB units and nothing seemed to work for me. In fact, after the third hotel, where I got a headache and my legs started twitching (no kidding), we decided that Travis should just vet the places first and then bring me in if it feels really good to him.  I am eternally grateful for my husband, who walks alongside me with such incredible strength, hope, wisdom, and patience as we figure out how and where to live with this illness. He is amazing and he makes this journey so much more enjoyable than it would be without him by my side! In fact, he even did a little jig to cheer me up after all the hotel searching was over!

Here is a snapshot of Travis entering a hotel to check it out before I go in. It ended up being the worst hotel he went in, so I didn’t even chance going in.  Good thing one of us can go into problematic buildings without getting sick!

This is hard work. Today’s hotel search has not come without tears. Some hotel staff are very accommodating, even making efforts to call their managers at home and ask when the last time insecticides were sprayed in the rooms (this is a regular practice of hotels, and the one I spoke with tonight said that their rooms were all sprayed two days ago, which made that hotel a place where we could not stay tonight).  On the other hand, some hotel staff can barely give you the time of day to answer a few questions about the cleaning products used in the rooms. It is overwhelming to look for a place to stay and not find one where I feel good. This is part of the story of those with biotixin illness.

WE ARE NOT ALONE:

This is hard work, yes, but this is meaningful work too.  We are not alone in our situation. We are surrounded by many, many other folks who struggle with CIRS/biotixin illness who can not tolerate many spaces and places either. I connect with them every day via Facebook, email, and phone. Their stories are very much like mine.

For years we thought that my health issues came from inside my body, but now we see that these issues have been triggered by external circumstances. It’s amazing. And completely life-altering.

TONIGHT’S SOLUTION:

We decided to stay in a little Air BnB place here in Prescott. It’s the least problematic of the bunch we looked at, so we embrace this shelter as our own tonight.

Here are some photos from today:

Our morning in Chandler, AZ:

A chilly wait outside while Travis is checking out a hotel:

We don’t have any luggage, so we store our clothes and other belongings in boxes. This is what it looks like when we move into a new space:
THIS WEEK:

This week we will continue to sift through possible rentals with our new realtor. We would love prayers and encouragement this week as we look at these possible living spaces.

WHAT WE KNOW:

We are being led by the One who turns our darkness into light and makes our rough places smooth. (Isaiah 42:16)
Love,

Mariah and Travis
