7 hotels vetted tonight: None pass inspection.

These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”  Isaiah 42:16 Friends, We are in Prescott, AZ tonight. We are on an unfamiliar path. We vetted seven hotels and Air BnB units and nothing seemed to work for me. In fact, after the third hotel, where I got a headache and my legs started twitching (no kidding), we decided that Travis should just vet the places first and then bring me in if it feels really good to him.  I am eternally grateful for my husband, who walks alongside me with such incredible strength, hope, wisdom, and patience as we figure out how and where to live with this illness. He is amazing and he makes this journey so much more enjoyable than it would be without him by my side! In fact, he even did a little jig to cheer me up after all the hotel searching was over! A home for people with CIRS

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please go to this link to read how I have recovered my health using The Dynamic Neural Retraining System (DNRS)!  “Be grateful for the home you have, knowing that at this moment, all you have is all you need.” -Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of Simple Abundance (a shared meal in our hotel room “home”) VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please go to this link to read how I have recovered my health using The Dynamic Neural Retraining System (DNRS)!  Home.  Right now home is a hotel room, but home won’t always be a hotel room.  We trust that God has spaces for us that are beyond the scope of our imaginations. We wait with hope until he reveals those spaces to us.  In fact, we have been introduced to an incredibly kind, compassionate, insightful realtor in the Phoenix area who is doing everything in her power to help us find a place to stay (far outside of the city) that works for us right now.  Ever since she has heard of our situation, she has been doing research on what can be done to find a space for us that we can call “home” for a time.  She has branched out to her colleagues as well, informing them about our situation, and asking them to help with the search!  Wow.  We are so very thankful for her, as we feel (naturally) bewildered and overwhelmed by looking for a place to land right now, […]

We are finally in Arizona!

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please go to this link to read how I have recovered my health using The Dynamic Neural Retraining System (DNRS)!   (Travis and Mariah at the Continental Divide) Friends, We made it! We drove 2,000 miles across the country, from Holland, MI to Chandler, AZ! We are amazed at the fact that we are here and we are poised to let the healing begin (as soon as we find a place to call home, which is not this hotel room). (We apologize for our lack of communication for the last few days.  We *tried* to replace our phones in Amarillo, Texas, but (to make a long story short), they were shipped ahead of us to our next destination, and we did not end up staying at that destination long because I felt pretty bad there.  We will likely not have phones until Wednesday of this week, at the earliest.  This has made a cross country trip very interesting, to say the least, and we have realized how dependent we are on our technology to get us places (and do a million other things, it seems!).  At the end of the day, we welcome the current technological reprieve and we will also welcome phones back into our lives with gladness later this week!) Travis and I often play a game at dinnertime called “Rose, Bud, Thorn”, as a way to recap some highlights and lowlights of the day behind us.  Roses […]

Insurance issues – {breathe}

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please go to this link to read how I have recovered my health using The Dynamic Neural Retraining System (DNRS)!  Friends, Today we fully lean into the hope we have that “gladness and joy will overtake us, that sorrow and sighing will flee away!” (Isaiah 51:11). We are having significant and frustrating conversations with our insurance company regarding my medical needs today. The conversation that I had with an insurance rep this morning was more condemning than assisting. For people who suffer from chronic illness, the bureaucracy of insurance companies that prioritize policy over people can be painful and really stressful. Our situation is already so complex, like a narrow, winding path through a medical jungle. It feels like they are handing us another backpack to weigh us down on our jungle trek instead of offering us a guiding hand. Insurance woes are one of the most challenging things to deal with when you are already managing a life-altering illness. Please pray for us and for all those who are ill and are going through the same, thick, insurance issues that we are. I plunged into Psalm 25 after my conversation this morning, letting it be my prayer for redemption and protection over us. Will you join us in praying it today? “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in you; let me not be ashamed; let not my enemies triumph over me…The […]
