“It’s all in your gut.”

At the end of every doctor’s visit, I ask each doctor for their final thoughts and I ask them what they would do if they were in my situation.  Without fail, every doctor has said, without hesitation, “It is all in your gut”.  They then tell me what they specialize in testing for, and that they will test for those things in order to rule them out as potential causes to my health issues, but they really think all of my issues are in my gut.  They also tell me that I am  “doing everything right”, that I am “really organized, which is very helpful for them as my practitioners”, and that “it is just really hard” to have the constellation of issues that I happen to have, because they are really difficult issues (IBS, Chronic Fatigue, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis), to treat with a pill or a “one-size-fits-all” regimen.  The doctors will often look at me with a compassionate, puzzled look on their face and then say, “Ok!  Keep doing what you are doing! Send me the labs that the other doctors are doing on you.  See you in a month.”

Every doctor’s visit usually involves some tears on my end, a lot of prayer, a lot of patience, and then total exhaustion afterwards.  Today’s visit with the immunologist went for three and a half hours.  It was supposed to be a two hour visit.  We are grateful for doctors who will answer our many questions, yet the medical world, as a patient, is still a a very difficult place to be.  Truly, it is a jungle.

To fill you in on today’s visit, I will bullet point some points below.

  • The doctor ran every skin-scratch allergy test available on me and the results came back saying that all of the foods that I am currently eating are allergens for me.  This is a classic sign of leaky gut.  Whatever you happen to be eating at the time of testing is the stuff that shows up on skin tests.  The issue is that ALL foods currently bother me, and sometimes (like today) my stomach decides that it doesn’t want hardly any food at all, which is a pretty big problem.
  • The doctor will be running more tests, which I will get drawn tomorrow.
  • I will meet with her in one month to go over these tests.
  • In the meantime, Cleveland, Ho!  The Immunologist thought that it was a very good place for me to go.

Additionally, we have been informed that Travis has the same parasiste as I do, (Blastocystis Hominis) and that he has another gut infection on top of that.  We look forward to hearing what direction Cleveland Clinic will point us in for treatment of these parasites.  The current protocol that I have been on for two months is not working, so we need to try a different approach.

In light of all of this, we cling to God’s promise that he is RIGHT HERE WITH US and will use ALL of this for good!  I love the verse from 1 Peter 5:10 that says “The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will HIMSELF MAKE YOU STRONG, FIRM, AND STEADFAST.”  Can you do it soon, Lord? We patiently wait.

Please pray for us.  Today was a very long day healthwise for me, and the doctor visit was pretty intense and totally exhausting for both of us.  Since ALL of the doctors say, “It’s all in your gut”, then let’s pray wholeheartedly for that precious gut of mine to be restored!  Focus those prayers right toward my digestive tract! 🙂

Hospital gowns are all the rage these days. 🙂

The plethora of shots that were given to me today.
Allergy and immune tests being done.

If you feel led to donate to my medical fund, we would love that!  With the Cleveland Clinic visit coming up next week, and the Dr. Amy Nett visit in San Francisco this fall, we could use your loving support!  Click below if you would like to donate to this fund and help us find answers to my health issues once and for all!
